What it can't do

Can SoundScrub remove echo from a video?

You recorded in a kitchen, a hall, a stairwell, or a bathroom, and the voice bounces around the room. You want it to sound close, like a small quiet room.

The short answer

The honest answer: echo is the voice bouncing, not a second sound sitting next to the voice. SoundScrub can take down a fridge or a fan in that room. It cannot un-bounce the voice. Adobe Podcast Enhance and similar tools are built for that job. This is not.

What it can do instead

It won't fix the problem above, but if there's also noise in the recording, this is the closest thing worth running:

  1. 1 Drop your video or audio file into SoundScrub.
  2. 2 Set the mode to Remove.
  3. 3 Pick "ambient noise" from the sound list.
  4. 4 Run it. You get the file back with that sound removed and the rest untouched.

Honest heads-up

If the recording also has hum or hiss, Remove "ambient noise" or Keep only "people speaking" will make the echo more obvious, because there is less covering it. Do not buy credits expecting the echo to go.

Common questions

Can SoundScrub remove echo from a video?

No. Echo is the voice reflecting in the room, not a separate sound it can lift out. It separates sounds. It can't take echo out.

What can it do in an echoey room?

It can take down extra noise in that room, a fridge, a fan, street leak, with Remove and "ambient noise", or Keep only "people speaking". The voice will still sound like that room.

What should I use instead?

A tool made for echo, Adobe Podcast Enhance is the common one, or record closer to the mic next time. SoundScrub is the wrong product for this.
