How to keep your commentary and drop the game audio

You recorded gameplay or a stream and the game is louder than your mic. You want the commentary for a recap or a short, and you don't need the guns, the music, or the menu beeps.

The setup

Mode
Keep only
Prompt
"people speaking" ยท preset

Step by step

  1. 1 Drop your video or audio file into SoundScrub.
  2. 2 Set the mode to Keep only.
  3. 3 Pick "people speaking" from the sound list.
  4. 4 Run it. You get the file back with only that kept and everything else dropped.

Why this works

Game audio is a pile of different sounds: music, effects, menus. Removing them one at a time would take several passes. Keep only with "people speaking" holds the talking and drops all of it at once.

Why the usual fixes fall short

Game audio sits on top of your voice and never holds still, so a normal noise remover either chops your sentences or lets the loud moments through.

Honest heads-up

You lose the game completely. Teammates on voice chat stay, because the model keeps all speech as a group. In-game character dialogue and announcers count as speech too, so some of that can survive.

Common questions

How do I remove game audio and keep my commentary?

In SoundScrub, set the mode to Keep only and pick the "people speaking" preset. That holds your voice and drops the game music, effects, and menus in a single pass.

Will teammate voice chat stay?

Yes. The model keeps speech as a group, so other people talking stay. It can't keep you and drop voice chat.

What about characters talking in the game?

In-game dialogue and announcers are speech, so they can stay too. This works best when the game audio is mostly music and effects.
